Why Riders and Creators Turn to Chin Mounts
The DJI action chin mount has become a favourite for action-camera users because it offers a natural, first-person point of view. I had had chin mounts on other helmets however i wanted something that was quick and easy to remove if I didn't want to record any POV shots on my spins.
For motorcyclists, mountain bikers, skiers, and vloggers, the angle feels immersive and more accurate to what the rider actually sees. But as the review points out, not every chin mount performs the way people hope — and the DJI Osmo version comes with its own set of limitations.
It of course arrived from Amazon in the usual high quality box from DJI, although no sticker this time. Sad times.

Pros of the DJI Osmo Chin Mount

A chin mount places the camera at eye level, giving viewers a perspective that feels true to life. This is especially appealing for riders looking to recreate the experience of being on the bike.

The mount attaches quickly and securely during initial setup. For beginners or casual users, there’s very little technical skill required to get started.
✔️ Works Fine for Low-Motion Activities
During calm riding, walking, or slow biking, the footage is generally stable enough to use. It’s a practical option for creators who don’t need professional-level steadiness in every shot.
Cons of the DJI Osmo Chin Mount
❌ Stability Issues During Movement
The biggest problem highlighted in the review is stability. When the rider turns their head, hits bumps, or moves at higher speeds, the mount tends to wobble or shift. This can lead to shaky or misaligned footage.
❌ Helmet Compatibility Isn’t Guaranteed
Depending on helmet design, the mount can interfere with your chin bar, vent, or visor. Some helmets simply don’t have the right shape for a chin mount to sit comfortably or securely.
❌ Not Ideal for High-Speed Riding
If you’re riding fast,may not hold up well, especially in cold weather. The gap it left on my Shark Spartan RS let the wind hit my face with an Icy blast.
Who Should Consider the DJI Osmo Chin Mount?

Anyone looking for ultra-stable, professional-grade footage
Filming in winter time!
Final Verdict — A Useful Mount, With Important Caveats
The DJI Osmo action chin mount can absolutely work — if you keep your expectations realistic. It’s a great intro-level POV solution and works best for slower rides or low-motion activities.
However, if you’re looking for consistently smooth footage under demanding conditions, or if your helmet design doesn’t play nicely with chin mounts, you may want to consider alternative setups (such as a permanent chin mount, top-mounted, side-mounted, or chest-mounted position).
